THREE YEARS' SERVICE "This Independent Company was an organization formed in Trumbull County, Ohio, to perform duty within the State. It was enrolled at Warren, Ohio, during the months of May and June, 1862, and was mustered into the United States service November 9, 1862, at Gallipolis, Ohio, for a period of three years, by C. O. HOWARD, Captain 18th Infantry, U.S.A., Mustering Officer. It was mustered out July 1, 1865, at Gallipolis, Ohio, by N. C. MACRAE, Major, U.S.A., Mustering Officer, by order of War Department. The company was principally engaged in guard duty at Gallipolis, Ohio, and at points along the Ohio river as occasion required. It was also sent on expeditions into West Virginia in one of the which it recaptured Pt. Pleasant from the enemy. It also participated in the pursuit of General John Morgan on this raid through Ohio, and assisted in capturing many of his raiders. No official report in which this company bore an honorable part has yet been published by the War Department; the above has been compiled during the preparation of this work from information furnished by officers and muster rolls of the company."
