My family names I'm researching in Gallia Co. OH are: STRONG, HAMPTON, STIDGER. STRONG (Sarah (b) 1822, (m) James Hampton here in 1844). HAMPTON, James - parents: Thomas Hampton and Mary (Bradfield). Can't find James after 1870 Meigs Co. OH census when he lived there. May have been the "James Hampton" living in Mason Co. WVA at time of 1890 Veterans census - can't find proof. A "Hiram Hampton" believed to have been his son also living in WVA. HAMPTON, Levi, son of James Hampton. Married June 1875 to Clara Stidger in Gallia Co. Lived in nearby Meigs Co. OH. Moved to Jefferson Co. Iowa, city of Fairfield, by time of their daughter, Ada's birth in Jan. 1877. Levi died young, in 1882, about 28 yrs. old, leaving Clara and 3 young children. Ada along with a baby sister "Gracie" adopted out, no record of what happened to their brother, Edward. STIDGER, Clara who married Levi Hampton. Interested in any STIDGERs as it was a large family. Clara's parents were: George Stidger and Emily (Fox), daughter of Clarissa (Higley) Fox. Clara Stidger Hampton was last in Jefferson Co. IA in 1883 - no record found after that date in Iowa.

SURNAMES: MCNEW, BOSTER
According to the 1860 Gallia County, Ohio census William McNew (my wife's gg grandfather) was born about 1835 in Ohio. He lived in Harrison Township and was a Farm Laborer. He married Elizabeth Boster, daughter of John Boster in Gallia Co. 31 July, 1853 and had at least four children; Allison, b-abt 1855; Sylvester, b-3 Feb, 1858; Winfield, b-26 Jan, 1860 and Savannah, B-27 Sept, 1862. By 1870 Elizabeth and her children (and a brother William Boster) were in Jasper County, Illinois without William. According to a Guardianship Petition dated Sept 1868 (in Jasper County) William Boster is awarded Guardianship of Sylvester, Winfield and Savannah (but not Allison). The Petition states that the children have about four Hundred Dollars in Expectancy from the US Government. This probably means that William's death was the result of the Civil War, but I have not proven that. Any information that would shed light on who William McNew, John Boster or Elizabeth Boster were, who their ancestors were, where they came from as well as the circumstances of William McNew's death would be appreciated.
