Harrison County was
formed in 1813, from Jefferson County on
the East. And about 3/4 of the County
on the West was formed from Tuscarawas
County. Two Northern Townships, Rock
and Union, were taken from Harrison
County in 1833 and made part of Carroll
County. Harrison County is named for
William Henry Harrison, Hero of the War
of 1812, and the first President of the
United States to be elected from the
state of Ohio. Cadiz is the county seat
for Harrison County.
