BURRIER, FIFE, MELVILLE posted by Melanie Fife-Ryder on Friday, March 19, 1999

John Robert FIFE b. 7/12/1873 d. 7/19/1912 the s/o Robert Orr FIFE and Catherine Elizabeth Ackerman BURRIER married to Abbie C. MELVILLE on March 1900 and had 3 children: Robert Doyle b. 9/1900 (my grandfather) Kathryn Mary b. 7/1905 Clara b. 1907 According to published articles, Abbie was born in 1881 in Uhrichsville, Ohio and died 7/11/1909 in Robyville, Jefferson Cty, Ohio. While still being conscious up to her last moments, she gave full instructions for the care of her children, she apparently died during childbirth. She was buried at Bethel Cemetery, Green Twp, Harrison Cty on 7/13/1909. Another newspaper article on 7/29/1909 states that John Robert placed 3 of his children in the care of his mother (according to the Cadiz Republican). It appears that John Robert then married a Mary Watkins on 3/27/1910. Rumor has it that John died from a fall from a bridge, possibly in Cadiz Junction. According to the rumors, John Robert was pushed off the bridge by 2 men during sometime of robbery attempt. The 2 were never seen again. Apparently John Robert had been seeking employment, some of which was in the Akron area. It is unknown whether any more children existed from the 2nd marriage. If anyone can add anything, I would appreciate it. Good Luck in your searches.

They had two known daughters, both named in the Harrison County Guardian's Docket in March 1891: Alice Isabel [or Isabella Alice], born 15 March 1875 and Mattie, born 4 August 1877.
