Cecil & Blanche Atherton

Atherton

In Peru, O., April 3, 1885, Blanche, only daughter of G. and S. Atherton, aged 21 years, 4 months and 21 days.

She was born in Greenfield, O., Nov. 12, 1863; was baptized by Rev. J. H. Gray at the age of fourteen, and was a faithful, progressive Christian, a member of the Peru Baptist Church.  From childhood she was mild, amiable, affectionate and dutiful; was in her religious views of duty, firm, and loved to see the Church of God and the cause of missions sustained by the members, herself particularly interested.  She was upon the last half of a four years course of study; was a fine musician, vocal and instrumental; also a fine artist leaving many beautiful paintings as mementoes of her skill.

I never knew a young lady so perfect in her character.  Though reared with grandparents, who dearly loved her, and the jewel of her parents, all their kindness bestowed seemed to make her more amiable.  When told that her physician said she could not get well, she said it was all right; life was desirable, but if she were to die, it would be pleasant to take her friends with her.  She died very gently; called for her friends that were not present, gave them her last greeting, said it would be but a little while and they would all meet again.  Culture and refinement marked her features in the repose of death.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. J. Knowlton, of North Fairfield.     H.
