Need help in locating McDonald family in Jackson County. John MCDONALD is listed in the 1860 for Jefferson Township (If this is the township for Oak Hill), Jackson County. I have been told that he is listed in the 1870 Census for either Bloomfield or Milton Township living with his son Peter. I have just located info on the Jackson County web site that son Peter died Septmeber 1881 at age 49, and his wife Rachel died July 1881 at age 51 in Bloomfield Township. What happened to Peter's father John? I have not been able to find a death record for him. Where is Bloomfield Township in relation to Jackson and Wellston? I will be coming to Jackson the first week of May to see what I can find on death records and burial places. I would very much appreciate any help. I'm not that familiar with Jackson County.

I beleive Thomas GRIFFITHS, born 1837 in Wales, a coal miner, was in Jackson Co. in the late 1850s before moving on to California in the mid 1860s, and Washington in the 1880s. Does anyone know anything about the Welsh coal miners of that era? Are there any census for 1860 for Jackson Co.? Would appreciate any ideas or leads.

Does anyone have information on the family of Emma RILEY and Gus WILLIS? I have this from my deceased father: a daughter Beatrice WILLIS marrying a REISINGER. Her sister Bernice WILLIS married a SWAN or SWANN and then a BROWN. Another sister Cornelia WILLIS married Benjamin VANDERVORT and they had at least one son, Chester VANDERVORT. Another sister Gladys WILLIS married Bob MCMANN. It seems these families mostly lived in Liberty or Jackson Townships.

My husband and I have been working on his RICE ancestors that spent several generations in Jackson Co. They are part of the family - many of whom were buried on the homestead Rice Cemetery. Although we have a fair amount of documentation - I was wondering what the likelihood of accessing possible records or photos if they were members of the Masonic order in Jackson. We don't know for sure if they were or not - but a few were recorded as very active in the "ME Church" and later Rices were masons. (I had written a letter to the church about their archives but there wasn't a response.) Would you know who I could ask about such things?

Cumpston (AKA Compston) was buried in an unknown cemetery in Coalton. The site gives Cumpston's hometown as Portsmouth, OH, and his citation indicates that he was born in Gallia County. He served as a private in Company D, 91st Ohio Infantry. He received his medal for capturing a flag during the August to November, 1864 Shenandoah Valley Campaign for capturing an enemy flag. Does anyone know of his grave's location?

I am looking for the time, Deaths, and place of burial of Leroy HARRIS and his wife who use to live 6 miles north of Jackson on RT. 35. When the new 35 was built they live in a trailer just north of Canters Cave rd. They were black and had two grandsons living with them in the early 1950's, Ronny and John Jay. I lived with them for a short time when I lived at Jackson just down the road from them. Any help would sure be appreciated. I am older now and want to make sure I know where they are buried. Your help will be appreciated. I have fond memories of part of my childhood roaming the caves of Canters Cave and I called the Harrises mom and pop.
