Benjamin Shane

BENJAMIN SHANE, notable among the first settlers of Jefferson county, those who crossed the river in the face of Indian aggression and secured them homesteads west of the Ohio, was Benjamin Shane, a native of Maryland, who came to Ohio about the year 1787, and settled in Island Creek township, as it is now called. He was the father of six children, none of whom survive.
