GEORGE BETZ, one of the worthy pioneers of Jefferson county, who was born in Pennsylvania in 1793, the son of Abraham Betz. In company with his parents he came to Jefferson county in 1801 and settled on what is now known as the Jewett farm, four miles above Steubenville. He was an industrious farmer and was highly regarded by all with whom he was associated. In 1819 he was married to Mary Ball, daughter of James Ball, of Virginia, and eight children were born to them, of whom six are living. His wife died in about 1860, and he passed away December 25, 1873.
