ROBERT McBROOM, a prosperous farmer and a well known resident of Buffalo township, Brooke county, W. Va., was born in the year 1819 near Bethany, W. Va., on the farm where he now resides. His parents were Robert and Mamcy (Jimmison) McBroom. The father was a native of Ireland, emigrating to America when quite young; the mother was born near Mt. Hope, Washington county, Penn. Thirteen children were born to them: John, Mary (Dickey), Thomas, Robert and Sarah (Hoodman). Robert McBroom had but a limited chance for obtaining an education but improved whatever opportunity he had. In January 1844, he was joined in marriage to Rebecca Hagerty, the daughter of James and Rachel Hagerty. This union has been blessed by the birth of eleven children, three of them now living. Mr. and Mrs. McBroom had nine children. Robert, James and Mary are still living. Mr. McBroom is a successful farmer and has the confidence and esteem of the people with whom he comes in contact. His political faith is founded upon the principles incorporated in the democratic platform. The family is one of the oldest in the township and have always been identified with the improvements that have been made from time to time in the county.
