Charles Armstrong to John Rhinehart & other School Directors
This indenture made the sixth day of march, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and twenty seven. Between Charles Armstrong and
Susannah, his wife, of the County of Jefferson and State of Ohio, of the
one part and Joh Rhinehart, Thomas Penrose and Joseph Bursen, Directors
of the School district No. Two in Island Creek Township of the same
County and State of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Charles
Armstrong and Susanna, his wife, for the land in consideration of the
sume of Two dollars and fifty cents to them in hand paid the receipt
whee of is herby acknowledged and have granted, bargained and sold, and
by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, convey and confirm unto the
said John Rhinehart, Thomas Penrose, Jospeh Buson, and their successors
in office for the sole use of the inhabitants of said district for the
use and support of schools therein and for no other use and purpose what
so ever all the following described lot of land with the appurtenaces,
situate, lying and being in Island Creek, Towship, Jefferson County and
State of Ohio, aforesaid and is bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning
for the same at a white walnut Sapling Standing in the Northern boundary
of section number Twenty nine of Township number seven in Range No. Two
then parches and fifteen feet west from the quarter section post in said
section number twenty nine of Township number seven, in Range No. Two,
ten perches and fifteen feet went from the quarter section post in said
Section line and running due west twelve perches to a post; then north
forty two feet to a post, thence east twelve perches to a post thence
south forty feet to the place of beginning. To have and to hold the
above described lot of land and promises with the appurtenances to the
said John Rhinehart, Thomas Penrose and Joseph Burson, Diorectors of
said school Dist. and their successors in office to the only proper use
and behoof of them the said School Directors and their successors in
office forever. and administrators do hereby covenant and agree to and
with the said John Rhinehart, Thomas Penrose and Joseph Burson, School
Directors of said District and their sucessors in office that they the
said Charles Armstrong and Susannah, his wife, the above deserribed lot
of land and premises to the said John Rhinehart, Thomas Penrose and
Jospeh Burson, Directors of said School District and their successors in
office shall and will warrant and forever defend against all lawful
claims whatsoever. In Testimoney Whereof the aforesaid Charles Armstrong
and Susannah, his wife, hath hereunto set their hand and seals the day
and year first above written.

The State of Ohio, Jefferson County, SS
(Seal) on the sixth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and twenty seven, personally appeared before me one of the
Justices of the peace in said County, the within named Charles
Armstrong, and Susannah, his wife, and severallly
acknowledge the within instrument of writing to be their act and
voluntary deed for the purposes there in expressed and requested that
the same might be recorded as such. She the said Susannah, being by me
personally examined separate and apart from her said husband and
declared that she signed and as her act and deed delivered the same
without any coercion or compulsion from her said husband. Given under my
hand and seal this day and year above written.

Know all men by the presents we John Marsteller and Margaret Marsteller,
wife of John Marsteller in consideration of the sum of Three hundred and
twenty five dollars in hand by to us by Robert Armstrong do here by
remise and release forever quit claim unto the said Robert Armstrong his
heirs and apigees forever all our title, interest and estate legal
,equitable (unable to read) in the following premeies with the ( unable
to read ), it being found N 30 in township No. 7 in Range No. 2 situated
in Jefferson County, State of Ohio and owned by Charles Armstrong and
bound by the South by lands belonging to James Crawford, Thomas Cole,
and the West by the land belonging to the heirs of William Patterson, NE
the North land belonging to heirs of Thomas Jackman, NED the East by
land belonging to (unable to read) Cole and heirs of William Jackman
containing ninety eight acres (unable to read)and seventeen perches more
or less. In testimony where of we have (unable to read) and seal this
17 day of June 1852.
