Spence Wallace


SPENCE WALLACE, city treasurer of Steubenville, O., has been a resident of this city since he was two years of age. His birth took place at Barnesville, O., in August, 1851, but to the schools of Steubenville he is indebted for his educational training. Prior to 1900 Mr. Wallace was engaged with different business houses in a clerical capacity, in that year being appointed assistant postmaster, and serving as such until 1904. In 1908 he was elected city treasurer and both officially and personally he enjoys the esteem and confidence of the public.

In 1874 Mr. Wallace was married to Miss Helen B. Sarratt, a daughter of Joseph H. Sarratt, and they have one daughter, Nellie R. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace are members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mr. Wallace is identified with the fraternal orders of Elks and Knights of Pythias, and in the latter order is very prominent, being vice grand chancellor of the Knights of Pythias of Ohio.
