William Kerr

WILLIAM KERR, was the first teacher and school was held with more or less regularity until 1852, when Samuel Clark was hired as teacher at $18 per month. When Christmas came he refused to give the customary treat, which the scholars demanded and quit the school in disgust. His son Alexander, who had received his early education here, was employed to finish out the term, and thus the place became immortalized in his hook, "The Old Log School House".
