I descend from Charles Maxwell of Jefferson Co. Oh. ( My 3rd great grandfather.) He was born in Ireland 1777, came to America and removed to Fayette Co Pa. In 1805 he received a patent from Pres. Thomas Jefferson and removed to Cross Creek township, Reeds Mills, Jeff Co. He built a mill on cross creek and a two story brick house. The house is today being put in good repair and will be on the historical list of old houses. It was owned in the 1920s by George W. Chalfant, he put stucco over the bricks. The railroad tracks run beside the house. It is located on the old route 22 by Cross Creek the old road that goes into Wintersville. [In 1806 Charles Maxwell moved to Reed's Mill and built the first grist mill and saw mill in 1807, west of the of the Alleghenny Mountains.
