I believe Josiah had son William as well who is not listed here.
(Jonathan is Josiah Sr.'s brother, by the way, which you'll see later.)
The Mortality Schedule collected with the 1850 census (giving deaths during the last 12 months) gives these deaths. Eli Joslin, died May 1850; Mrs. Rhody Joslin, died May 1850, age 22; and John K. Joslin, died Aug 1850. I believe strongly that Eli is a son of Josiah, know that John K. is the son of Josiah, and feel certain that Rhoda is the wife of Jonathan.

Andrew Co MO Will dated 4 Feb 1851, filed 8 Mar 1851 for Jonathan Joslin. Leaves brother Josiah appointed executor of Will and guardian of his infant daughter, Margaret Mary Elvira Rody Joslin. [I don't know where this baby was in the 1850 census-- farmed out with somebody, no doubt, as her mother Rhoda was already dead, and apparently her father, Jonathan, going fast.]

John MOODY was born about 1795 in PA, died in Richland county, OH, on 11 Sept 1838 and is believed to have married twice in Knox county; first to Experience MILLER on 2 Mar 1820 and second to Mira HUSSA (b. abt. 1799; d. 23 July 1837 in Richland county, OH) on 25 Sept 1828. John MOODY's gravestone indicates he fought in the War of 1812 but there are too many who served with that name for me to identify his unit in military records. I have John's probate records confirming the two sons but he apparently outlived both wives.

I have little information on the wives and would also like to determine what unit John served in. Experience MILLER would probably be related to an Eli MILLER who is the Administrator of John's estate. I have yet to find any reference to the HUSSA name. HUSSA appears to me to be an accurate transcription of the marriage record but I have seen it published as HESS as well.

I just found out that my gggrandparents were married in Wayne Twp, Champaign County, Ohio and am looking for information on them. Maria(h) Louise Hale (b.1814) married William Stricker (b.1813 PA) abt. 1835? 36?. They had Louisa (1838), Mary(1840), Eva(1842), Silas(1844), William Fletcher(1846) my great grandfather, and Barbara(1852). They left for Viroqua, Wisconsin in 1854 or so where they settled, farmed and died. Their son William stayed in Viroqua all of his life also. Is anyone out there familiar with this family? Who were Mariah's parents? Where is Wayne Township? The elder William Stricker is said to be from Knox County, Ohio and I think his father may also be a William Stricker (I found mention of a probate record for a William Stricker in Knox County in 1849...could this be the head of the family?)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I spent last week researching in Knox and Licking Counties. It was a very successful week, but as usual, I'm now left with even more questions. But that's what makes this so much fun!

I 've been looking for my father's half sisters and had always been told they never married. I don't think that my father ever knew them as they were 18 and 20 years older than him. Anyways, i decided to look in the marriage records at the courthouse, since the last time i found them was in the 1910 census. Turns out they both got married in October of 1917! I haven't checked the census for 1920 yet, but here's the information in case anyone recognizes them.

Lydia May COSNER b Aug. 6, 1898 to James L. Cosner and Mary Butcher of Mt. Vernon Lydia married Homer L. WATKINS on October 24, 1917 in Mt. Vernon. Probably lived in Fredericktown for at least a while.

Emma Helen COSNER b. February 18, 1900 to James L. Cosner and Mary Butcher. Emma married Edward L. WHITE on October 12, 1917. Edward was listed as being a barber in West Carlisle, Ohio.

James and Mary were divorced in 1902 and Mary remarried in 1906 to Robert Miller, a barber in Fredericktown.

Does anyone have any information on this WATKINS or WHITE family? I'd love to find their children. Assuming they had any. I'll be checking the 1920 census this weekend.

Thanks,

JOHN LAPE died before 1850. The 1850 Knox County Census shows EVE COLEMAN LAPE (born Pa.) and 12 children born in Knox County, Ohio. The children listed : JULIA ANN, SARAH, ELLEN, SUSAN, JOHN, NANCY, WILLIAM, RACHEL, CATHERINE, FRANK, ELIZABETH, AND EBINEZER.

EVE's brother FREDERICK COLEMAN (born Pa.) was also listed in the 1850 Census.

JOHN and EVE LAPE must have lived very close to the Knox/Richland County line as old correspondence states they used the Butler Post Office - Richland County, Ohio.

I understand from my cousin that when the PORTER family first came to KNO county that they were of the Catholic faith and after some happenings in the church they decided to change religion. I am interested in finding some info about what records are available in Knox County for the Catholic faith. I believe they attended a church around Danville. Does anyone know if there are any researchable records for that church. The PORTER family that I am looking for in Knox County is my fathers family. My grandfather's name was Charles William PORTER who died in 1947 and his father was John Hiram PORTER who died in 1911 and was married to Lidey Ann Smith. I can remember going to a reunion when I was a child at the Smith farm but have since lost contact with any of them. Anyone with any info please contact me. I believe all of Charles and Blanche's children were born on the old home place. The nearest town was actually Fredericktown but they were born in Perry township, Richland Co. I am desperate to find more information on the family of Moses Cummin(g)s that lived in Knox County between about 1830 and 1841, before moving to Ray County, MO.

This information was sent to me by another researcher: "Ann's father, Moses Cummins, Esq. had been a Justice of the peace: the Norton Banning 1862 history of Knox Co., Ohio gives a sketch of this family." This quote apparently came from a book about the Teegarden family written about 30 to 40 years ago. I have been unable to locate the authors.

I found one hard copy and two microfilm copies of the Norton Banning book at the Sutro Library in San Francisco. I did not find any information about the family of Moses Cummins in any of these copies. Is it possible that there are other copies of this book that have sketches of Knox county families including the family of Moses Cummings?

Thank you for any help you can provide.
