First Families Ancestors
The First Families files contain the papers which individuals submitted to the Lucas County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society to join First Families of Lucas County, Ohio. The collection is arranged by the member/file number assigned to each individual when he/she joined. Ancestors of members are indexed in the First Families of Lucas County File and the Name index which are both located in the Local History and Genealogy Department of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 325 Michigan Street, Toledo, Ohio, 43624.
The chapter maintains three categories of First Families:
Pioneer - for
ancestors residing in Lucas County before January 1, 1851
Settler -
after January 1, 1851 and before January 1, 1871
Centennial - 100
years before January 1 of the year the application was submitted
Researchers are permitted to see only the photocopy of the file for a member. Files are requested by member/file number. Birth certificates issued within 100 years of the application for First Families will not be made available to researchers.
The attached ancestor files were copied from the list maintained by the First Families Committee chairpersons, and contained names of people who did not qualify in any First Families categories at the time the files were submitted. They have been included here (but have not been assigned an ancestor number nor designated as part of any category) solely as an additional research aid.
The Lucas County Chapter's research committee will research
specific files, for the normal research fee, upon request either by mail or
email.
