HeritageQuest Online Census Records

· No plug-in needed.
· Image comes up clear in easy to read black and white - no grayscale look as with         Ancestry images.
· Basic search.
· Advanced Search.
· Find by page number.
· Census indexes claim a 99% plus accuracy. Indexes are not the reused error-prone AIS         (Accelerated Indexing System) indexes.
· Includes an in-depth online research guide for census records.
· Similar to the version U.S. Census Collection offered at Genealogy.com as a         subscription before MyFamily.com bought Genealogy.com.

Census Images 1790-1930 NOTE: The 1890 Census and Index are for the surviving fragments of Population Schedules and not the Special 1890 Census of Union Veterans.
Census Indexes 1790-1820; 1860-1870; 1890-1920; only indexes for CT, DE, MD, TX and VA are loaded for the 1930 census. Images of all census from 1790 to 1930 can be browsed.

Printing Census images from Home access

1. Download census image as a Tiff file instead of a PDF file.
2. Open Tiff file in an image (graphic) editor program.
3. Crop and/or save readable part of image.
4. Print cropped image. This will slightly enlarge the readable part of the image and will         save printer ink by not printing the black border.

· Primary and Secondary Sources
· Genealogy monographs from Marion J. Kaminkow's Genealogies in the Library of         Congress - A Bibliography
· Genealogical serials
· Local histories, both monographs and serials
· Primary documents such as (1) Maps and atlases; (2) Church and school records; (3)         Cemetery Lists; (4) Wills; (5) Public records; (6) Tax rolls and (7) Military rosters.
· Titles from libraries such as Newberry Library (Chicago); Harvard's Widener Library;         the New York Public Library, the Library of the University of Illinois at Urbana, and         many more.
· Materials from all 50 states, as well as Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Scotland, and         other points of emigration to the U.S.
· Similar to the Family and Local Histories subscription at Genealogy.com before         MyFamily.com bought Genealogy.com.

The books section covers Genealogy & Local History with 7, 922 family histories; 12, 035 local histories and 258 primary sources.

HeritageQuest Online PERSI

· Index is updated annually and is expected to grow by about 70,000 new citations by         early 2005.
· Searches on HeritageQuest Online show more spelling variations, including plurals         than the PERSI version offered by Ancestry as part of its US Records Collection.
· Once a promising reference is found, you can request photocopies of up to six articles at         a time for $7.50, plus 20 cents per copied page from the Allen County Public Library.
· Later this year HeritageQuest Online will begin linking PERSI citations to digital         images of the articles. You'll be able to view the original articles on your computer         screen, instead of having to send for photocopies from the Allen County Public Library         but libraries will have to subscribe to a premium service in order to get access to the         digital images.
· HeritageQuest Online's version of PERSI lets you use wildcards and Boolean operators         such as "and" and "or" in your search.

Currently, PERSI covers over 6, 500 journals and has over 1.6 million citations.

HeritageQuest Online Revolutionary War Pension & Bounty Land Warrant Applications

· Records of 80,000+ individuals who served in the Revolutionary War and contains both         genealogical and historical information.
· Each veteran's file usually contains six or more pages on each veteran and normally         includes the veteran's former rank, unit, and period of service, age or date of birth,         residence, and sometimes-genealogical information on other family members.

Guide for Downloading images

· When downloading sections of book, download no more than 20 pages per file. I         usually name the files a brief title of the book with a number such as "smith genealogy         1.pdf".
· When downloading Revolutionary War material my experiments have shown that a         maximum of 3 pages works best. The files again can be numbered such as "ralph smith         1-3" denoting pages 1 thru 3 of his file.
· Immediately after downloading a file, open it using Adobe Reader to be sure that the         file was downloaded properly. That way if there is an error you can re-download the         file before moving on in HeritageQuest Online. It is discouraging to find you can't         open a file after closing down HeritageQuest Online.

Summary

HeritageQuest Online has a magnitude of information and tools to help you
find more about your ancestors and their families.
