1829 | The original church, formed in 1829, meeting in homes, was called the Congregational Church. The 1st building, was erected in 1835, lot 32, on the east-west road (Rt.18), located directly east of Indian Hollow Rd. and the Penfield Cemetery. In 1871, a new church was built on lot 12, near the township center, on the north side of Rt. 18. The congregation worshipped there until the mid 1990's, when the new, larger church was built on the south side of Rt. 18, lot 14, west of Indian Hollow Rd. In the 1960's the church became the Penfield United Church of Christ but ended that affiliation in 1984. It became independent and then renamed the Penfield Community Church. Church records previous to the 1960's are not centrally located. Nancy Applebee Meyers, former member and church historian, has copies of some of the older records to share. |
