January 9 - "How to Apply to a Lineage Society" - Margaret Cheney will discuss the basic information, documentation, and organization needed to successfully complete an application to any Lineage Society. Honoring an ancestor in a lineage society is not reserved for the rich and famous. Your ancestors deserve to have their story of their contribution to history told. February 13 - "Brigadier General Quincy Adams Gillmore; the Life and Times of Lorain County's Highly Honored Civil War General"- Matthew Weisman March 12 - "Researching in Libraries and Archives" - Deborah A. Abbott will cover information about public and private research facilities that provide access to resources documenting the lives of our ancestors. Using examples, she will cover the holdings, locations and realities of research in these facilities. Debbie will also talk about using manuscripts in genealogical research. April 9 - "Family Search Indexing Project" - Dorothy Titera and Rae Ann Houghton will demonstrate how an army of volunteers are easily extracting data from valuable records that will produce free searchable indexes - all from the comfort of their own homes. The completed projects can be searched for free on FamilySearch.org. May 14 - "Tombstone Symbolism and Photography" - Terry Hart - will discuss the meaning of symbols and icons found on American tombstones. An understanding of the symbolism may help researchers learn more about their ancestors and better appreciate the actual artwork of tombstones. June 11 - June 11 – "1912: Year of the Titanic" – presented by Jim Smith and Janet Bird, the Lorain County Historical Society Education Coordinators. This presentation will begin with a PowerPoint program by Jim Smith on the worldwide events of 1912, followed by a first-person narrative by Janet Bird who will portray Titanic passenger, Carrie Constance Chaffee as she organizes a meeting aboard the Titanic. July 9 - Annual Pot Luck Picnic with the Black River Genealogists, the Wellington Genealogical Group, and the Lorain County Chapter. This year to avoid weather problems the picnic will be held indoors at a location to be announced. August 13 - "Finding Your Way Around Find A Grave" - Linda Limes Ellis. Linda will demonstrate how to utilize Find A Grave to your advantage by exploring its links.
