FARTHING, T. S.
The Elyria Republican Thursday July 12, 1894, Grafton
T. S. Farthing was born near Hull, England, February 16th, 1819 and died in Grafton July 5th, 1894, aged seventy-five years and five months.  On July 4th 1834, with his parents he sailed enroute from Hull to Eaton, this county, where had preceded him. In the course of time he married Harriet Findley, also of Eaton, and purchased a farm one and one half miles west of the center, where he lived for several years, when he sold and went to the western part of the state. A few years later he buried his wife, who left four small children. For his second wife he married the mother of Mrs. A. W. Nichols, and had one other child, who died in infancy. At the age of thirteen his daughter died, and after maturity twos sons followed those that had gone before. One of these sons was in the service of Uncle Sam at the time of his death. In 1882 he buried his second wife, with whom he had lived twenty-six years and since her death he has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Nichols, an honored, esteemed and trusted member of their family. He was a conscientious Christian; had made the scriptures a study from childhood; was so well versed in Bible lore that he would quickly correct the mistake of one word in a quotation he might hear, and directly turn to any passage desired. His life was unpretentious but worthy of imitation in many respects. In his heart no malice or ill will was harbored toward any person, but pure and unselfish purposes reigned supreme, and those qualities endeared him to many friends.
