Leone N. Nalley 80-year resident of Amherst
Leone M. Nalley (nee
Becker) 80, of Amherst died Saturday at Lorain Joseph Regional Health
Center West Campus after a long illness. Born in Vermilion, she grew up
there and moved to Amherst 60 years ago. She graduated from Vermilion
High School in 1933 and worked in Advertising Sales for the Amherst
News Times, Amherst, in the '60s. Mrs. Nalley was a Past Madam
President of the Amherst Eagles Auxiliary. Survivors include her
husband of 58 years, Howard P; daughters Lona Gerth of Houston, Texas,
and Diane Gremba of South Amherst; three granddaughters; three
great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Ortner of Wakeman. She was
preceded in death by brothers Louis, William and Nelsen Becker; and
sisters Hazel Herbst and Margaret Becker. Services will be at 11 ajn.
Wednesday in the Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst The Rev. Arthur J.
Wiegand, Jr., pastor of the First United Congregational Church in South
Amherst wfll officiate. The Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst is in charge
of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Lung
Association.

was a past
president of the Amherst Eagles Auxiliary. In the 1960s, she sold
advertising at the Amherst News-Times, a weekly community newspaper.
Mrs. Nalley, 80, of Amherst, died Saturday at Lorain
Community/St. Joseph Regional Health Center, West Campus, Lorain.
The Vermilion native graduated from Vermilion High School in
1933. She lived in Amherst for the last 60 years. Survivors
include her husband of 58 years, Howard P.; daughters, Lona
Gerth of Houston and Diane Gremba of South Amherst; three
granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and a sister.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Evergreen
Cemetery in South Amherst. Hempel Funeral Home in Amherst is
handling arrangements.

John Nesbitt was born in Madrid,
St. Lawrence county, N.Y., January 9th, 1826, and died in Avon Township,
Lorain county, O., February 1st, 1887, aged 61 years and 22 days. He was
brought to Ohio by his parents when but eight years of age, and continued
a resident of Avon Township up to the time of his death. He enlisted in
the United States service in Company G, 107th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer
Infantry, and in eleven months was discharged for disability and sent home.
He never fully recovered from the effects of camp life, and his ailments
resulted in partial paralysis, which for about 15 years rendered him almost
helpless. Though an invalid so long, he dropped off quite suddenly at last.
He leaves a wife, two sons, and other friends to mourn their loss. He was
buried at Avon center, in the honors of the G.A.R., under whose auspices
a memorial service was held in the M.E. church, at Avon, Sunday, February
13th. The funeral and memorial sermons were both preached by Rev. W.B.
Farrah, pastor of the M.E. church.
