- LANE, WALTERS, WATROUS posted by Jean Watrous Simons on Monday, October 12, 1998
- Ransom WATROUS 1819-1909 was my great-grandfather. Born somewhere in Ohio. On December 13,1838 he married ELIZABETH LANE ( daughter of Samuel Lane) at Mt. Sterling, he was 19 and she was 14 at the time. They had eight childrenthe first being my grandfather William WATROUS, 1841-1880. He married Rachel C.WALTERS 1840-1889. They had six children the youngest was my father, JOHN HOMER WATROUS 1871-1956. I have never been able to locate Ransoms' place of birth or the name of his parents. I believe at one time in the early years they lived in or near Mt. Sterling. Prior to the 1860 US Census they were farming at Warnersville-Kiousville, Fairfield Township. The names of Big Plain and Pleasant Township also enter the record. Both Ransom and William are mentioned in the W.H. Beers publication of 1883. Also there was a contemporary of Ransom, named Samuel Watrous, five years his junior, that according to the census data lived in the same community. However I cannot find a clue that would bind any relationship. I am hopeful that some day we will locate someone who has researched my branch of the Watrous family that I can pass on to my seven children and twenty two grandchildren. I'm running out of time. - CHESELDINE posted by Peggy F. Rufner on Monday, October 12, 1998
- I am searching for information about Samuel Dent CHESELDINE who came to London, Madison Co. Ohio prior to 1873. He and his father Posey Cheseldine bought a lot of property in London area and opened general stores. Samuel Dent married Kate Hubbard 25 June 1874 in Madison Co., but I cannot find a record of their marriage, nor can I find a record of births of children, Jenny, Bessie, Donald or Sterling, all mentioned in Posey's will. Samuel Dent died in Texas in 1902. I am trying to find out how he got there and what happened to his children. Can anyone help? Peg Rufner, Sun Lakes AZ
