Looking for my husband's g'grandfather Thomas J. GARTLAND who lived in the Mahoning Valley in the late 1800's and as far as we can tell died sometime after 1909. He and Theresa WELSH took out a marriage license 3 Apr 1893. Theresa GARTLAND was listed in the phone directory as a widow in 1909. We have been unable to find out anything about him. They lived on McGuffey St. in Youngstown in 1894. Then they moved to Valley St. in 1895. They had 2 sons: William Harold, b1896; and Edger, b 1899 who later died in a fire. Theresa GARTLAND is in the city directory alone in 1900. We cannot find where Thomas J. GARTLAND went. We sent to vital records in Youngstown for the death record but they could not find one. We have looked everwhere. If anyone has any info I would appreciate hearing from you.

My g-grandfather, Henry BURNELL came to the US ca 1890 from Ireland with his two brothers. One of the three brothers allegedly headed for the Erie, PA area. Hence I am searching that area for a link. I suppose there is a possibility that the name was changed, as family lore indicates that the brothers stowed away to escape situations in Ireland. If that story sounds familiar, I would love to make contact.
