Mariemont Chapter
Daughters of the
American Revolution
Established 24 May 1930
|
Located in beautiful southwestern Ohio near
Cincinnati, lies the picturesque and historic Village of Mariemont. Mariemont
is a planned community, designed by the late Mary Emory. English Tudor is
the design of principal buildings in the village and no electric signs are
permitted. The village even has an elected Town Crier. The Village is
built on the site of an abandoned American Indian Village on the banks of
the Miami River.
In
May of 2005, Mariemont Chapter DAR celebrated its
75th year. The first meeting of Mariemont Chapter was
held on May 24, 1930. The meeting was
convened at the historic Eliphalet Ferris House on
Plainville Road in Mariemont. Organizing Regent, Mrs. Howard Donley, conducted
the meeting.
Our chapter is currently active in support of national
and state DAR projects. Meetings are usually held
on the 3rd Saturday of most months, at 10:30
in the morning. A guest speaker (on various topics)
is usually invited to speak to the group. Several service
projects are part of the efforts of the chapter.
The chapter joins with the Ohio State Society DAR and
National Society DAR in support of several DAR
Schools across the country, including Tamassee and
a number of American Indian Schools. The Chapter joins
Ohio State DAR, in supporting Waldschmidt House Museum
Homestead which includes a separate Civil War
Museum. The Waldschmidt Homestead Museum Complex
is the site of Camp Dennison, a Civil War Training Camp.
The 2 story home was built in 1804, by a former Revolutionary
Soldier, Christian Waldschmidt.
Women over 18, of good character, who can trace their lineage
(birth, marriage & death, with documented proofs for each
generation) back to a Revolutionary War soldier or patriot,
may be eligible for membership in DAR.
Genealogical Research:
Many members are continuing to research their family
"lines" to include the other men from whom they descend,
and who also served in the Revolutionary War.
