Program begins at 6:45PM. Jim Oda, Piqua Public Library Director, will discuss the Piqua-Troy courthouse wars, which resulted in the selection of Troy as the county seat and led to the construction of the current Miami County courthouse in Troy in 1881 and the Fort Piqua Hotel (now Piqua Public Library) in 1891.
Business meeting follows with presentation of Lineage Family awards and the Heritage award, and election of Society officers for 2010.

Jim Oda    

James C. Oda is a native of Piqua and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in history from Wright State University. He currently serves as the director of the Flesh Public Library, the Municipal Historian for the City of Piqua, and as an adjunct faculty member in History at Edison State College. Mr. Oda’s community activities include the Piqua Downtown Design Review Board, Piqua Planning Commission, Miami County Planning Commission, and service on the boards of the Ohio Historic Records Advisory Board, Piqua Municipal Records Commission, Piqua Area United Way Board, the Piqua Bicentennial Committee and the boards of the Piqua and Miami County Foundations. He has served as president of the following organizations: Ohio Association of Historical Societies and Museums, Miami County Visitors and Convention Bureau, Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce, Mainstreet Piqua Association. Access Piqua Television Association, Piqua Arts Council, Piqua Downtown Association, Piqua Historical Society, and commanding officer of the Twelfth Military Police Battalion. Jim has worked for over ten years in archaeological field studies and excavations in New Mexico. He is also the author of over twenty books and numerous articles on local and state history.
