
Scythe
and Rake
The
cradle scythe and grain rake were among the hand tools brought to Monroe County
by the first settlers. Grain crops were
usually cut with this kind of scythe, caught on the cradle, hand tied and stacked
for drying and hand-thrashing. Most
farmers of the late 1800s still used these tools.
