Wilma McCurdy McIntyre was a painter of renown.  Born in Monroe County, Ohio, she painted largely scenes of New England.  Her specialties included the many sea-shore views of the Northeastern United States.  Upon her death, her estate donated well over 40 paintings to the Monroe County Historical Society with the stipulation that some should be retained to decorate the Parry Museum.  The rest are being offered for sale to the public. 

The paintings are originals on either canvas or canvas-board. Canvas paintings are mounted on supporting frames. None of these pictures have decorative frames but are capable of easy mounting by the buyer. All of the pictures are in excellent conditions except #26 which has an easily reparable mark on the face. The price of each of these picture is $200 or higher.  During the sale month of April 2008, they are being offered at $95 each.  Shipping and handling costs in the United States will be paid by the seller. Shipping and handling costs for buyers outside the United States will be paid by the buyer with cost calculated based on destination. About the Painter – WILMA McCURDY McINTYRE Wilma McCurdy McIntyre was a woman to be envied. Her highly active life was characterized by her positive attitude and inquiring mind. She was witty and sharp minded before such attributes were considered appropriate in women. No subject escaped her attention – she was interested in everything. Her trademark was her ready smile. She was one of the rare people who could light up a room by walking into it. She collected friends wherever she went and never had a bad word for anyone. She always saw the positive side of any situation.

Wilma was born on March 21, 1914 to Charles M. and Cora L. Walters McCurdy.  She lived nearly two decades in Monroe County, Ohio. At age 19 she married Eugene “Gene” V. Fox. The young couple was married by Gene’s father, Henry Fox, a minister in Woodsfield, OH. Gene and Wilma moved to Phoenix, AZ where Gene worked for American Airlines. After Gene’s death, Wilma returned to Columbus, OH where she worked and taught in the business college at Capital University.

Wilma married Allen “Mac” C. McIntyre who worked for the Exact Weight Scales Company of Massachusetts. Mac was about 25 years Wilma’s senior and the couple made an exceptionally compatible pair. They moved to Mac’s home-town of Watertown, Massachusetts where Wilma followed a career in painting. She became a member of the North Shore Artist Association and studied under several outstanding painters including Roger Curtis and Aldro Thompson Hibbard. Wilma became quite good painting largely the ocean-shore scenes of Cape Cod and vicinity. She produced well over a hundred paintings in oil-on-canvas and oil-on-canvas-board. She exhibited her work locally as part of the North Shore Artist community.

Several of her prize paintings now hang in the Parry Museum in Woodsfield, Ohio in the County of her birth. While she chose not to sell her work, she was very generous by giving them away. Wilma McCurdy McIntire paintings adorn the walls of many of her family and friends.

Wilma had no children of her own and formed a lasting attachment with her nephew, Carson McCurdy. Wilma spent the last 5 years of her life with Carson in Florida and died October 3, 2006 at the age of 92-years and 6-months. She never lost her witty personality, her sense of humor, her sharp mind, her warm smile, and positive attitude. Surely Wilma is somewhere serenely painting her beloved New England shoreline and ocean scenes.
