G. L. SCOTT - At the age of 17 years, by occupation a farmer in York twp., Belmont county, O., enlisted Powhatan, as a private in Co. C, 170th O.V.I., 1st Brig., 1st Div., 8th A.C. He took active part in the battles of Maryland Heights, Snickler's Ford, Winchester, Martinsburg, Cedar Creek, and several skirmishes, and was granted an honorable discharge, Sept. 10, 1864, at Columbus, O. Of his brothers, William died of wounds received at Stone River, James O. and M. M. Two brothers of his wife, John and James Bair were also in the late service. Comrade Scott was born in Belmont county, O., Aug. 28, 1845 a son of John M. and Martha (Martin) Scott, now deceased. In 1866 he married in this county, Elizabeth A. Bair, who was born in Belmont county, O., in 1842. Her parents, William and Mary (Marley) Bair, are deceased. They have had four children, Martha J., Rosa B., Senora S., and Mary I. Comrade Scott belongs to Hess Post, 595; his father was a native of Scotland and came to America at a very early date. Comrade Scott is at present engaged in farming and his address is Armstrong Mills, O.
