About First Families of Morrow County
The purpose of "First Families of Morrow County" is to honor our pioneer ancestors who braved the wilderness to raise their families and their cabins. The date of December 31,1850 is established as the latest date you can claim your ancestor to be one of the "First Families".

Membership Information
You are most cordially invited to become a member of our Society - especially if you have "roots" in Morrow County. Annual Membership dues are $5.00 per person or $7.00 for a joint membership (two persons at one address). Outside the U.S., dues are $7.00 per person or $8.00 for a joint membership. Included with each membership is our quarterly newsletter "The Monument".

Make checks payable to: Morrow County Genealogical Society and mail to P.O.Box 401, Mount Gilead, OH 43338. Dues run from January 1 through December 31. Indicate whether membership is "new" or "renewal", whether "joint" or "single", and whether or not you are a member of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Please also indicate which surnames you are researching and whether or not you may be listed in our newsletter as researching those names.

Requesting Research
There are six ways to request research within the county:

1.
E-Mail the Society at MorrowCo.Gen.Society@embarqmail.com. Be specific about your request. (This is your best option.)

2. Write to the Society at P. O. Box 401, Mount Gilead, OH 43338. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope along with your very specific request.

Methods 1 and 2 above are volunteer services - you will be asked only to reimburse the Society for the cost of copies and mailing. A donation to the Society is always appreciated, of course!

3. Join the Morrow County Mailing List.

4. Check out the Lookup Volunteers page.

5. Go to one (or more!) of the monthly meetings of the Genealogical Society and ask for help!

6. Walk in to the County Courthouse.

Please do NOT mail research requests to the County Courthouse. They are very overworked and rely on our volunteers to handle your requests. However, they WILL handle "walk-in" requests.

About this publication: It was thought by the compiler (Betty Meier), that these folks were lost during the census periods as this home was not only for the poor, but also the sick and afflicted. (It was almost a hospital). Often times the Morrow County Home was their last home. These records show where most of these folks moved to upon their discharge, or where they were buried . For example: a father came from Indiana and got the son, a child was sent to an orphanage in Cleveland, and so on.
