Will of John BRATTON
November 22, 1872 - Salem Township, Adamsville, Muskingum Co, OH

In the name of the Great and Beneficent Father of us all I, John Bratton being of lawful age and sound mind, do hereby this twenty second day of November eighteen hundred and seventy two, make and publish this my last will and testament.

1st It is my will and desire that my dear wife Eliza Bratton will have and occupy the rooms in this house that we now occupy and have occupied since the return from the west of my son James Bratton. She is to occupy and hold [?] said premises during her life or during her widowhood, she is to have all the household goods that we now use or have in possession. She is also to have one fourth of all the products of this farm that we own and occupy, containing about one hundred acres, viz.- all her share of the corn to be delivered in the crib on the premises. All her share of other grains to be delivered in the granary on the premises, he share of the hay to be put in stacks in the meadow. I also bequeath to my wife the bey mare known by name as Freders [?], also ten sheep, also her choice of one cow or heifer, also ten dollars in cash.

2nd At or as soon after the death of my beloved wife, it is my will that the farm I now own and occupy shall be sold to my executor to the best advantage and divided as follows: to my daughter Ann Wisecarver three hundred dollars, to my daughter Fanny Saxon [?] Winn three hundred dollars. To my granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Saltgiver [?], three hundred dollars in lieu of what I owe her.

After the above bequests are fully made and paid, the residue of the amount from the sale of this said farm is to be equally divided between my two sons (viz. Allen W. Bratton and James Bratton and their heirs) after the expenses are paid. It is my will and desire that my son James Bratton should occupy my said farm during the lifetime of my beloved wise and farm it in a judicious and proper manner, pay the taxes as they become cue, and pay the rest as before specified in this will.

I hereby appoint William Armstrong (of Salem Twp) my executor of this last will and testament, fully empowering him to carry out the provisions of this will, after paying all my funeral expences and other debts (if any).
