Benjamin B. Jackson - born in Harison county, West Virginia, February 26, 1821, is a son of William Jackson, born March 16, 1777, in New Jersey, and Hannah (Bennett) Jackson, born in Pendleton county, Virginia, in 1779; and migrated with her husband to Warren county, Ohio, in 1828. They died in April, 1857 and 1855 respectively. Mr. Jackson was married in Clermont county, Ohio, September 22, 1840, by Arthur McNeal, Esq., to Elizabeth J. Champion, who was born in the same county, February 3, 1823, and they settled in Paulding county in October, 1848. Their children are Andrew C., born October 14, 1842; Martha C., October 3, 1844; Mary R., March 22, 1847, died April 2, 1847; Thomas C., August 23, 1848, died May 14, 1850; Stephen O., September 19, 1851; Sarah L., October 3, 1853; Chase M., October 18, 1855, died December 3, 1855; William B., July 26, 1857; Benjamin B., February 25, 1862; Ruby M., October 24, 1866, died February 8, 1869. Mrs. Jackson's father was Robert S. Champion, born December 19, 1799, in New Jersey, died in April 1847; her mother, Electa (Schooley) Champion, born in New Jersey, April 6, 1798, died December 10, 1828. Mr. Jackson has served as Justice of the Peace about nine years; Clerk several terms; Decennial Land Appraiser in 1880; Township Trustee one term, and Township Assessor two terms. He also served in the late war, member of Company G, 14th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, enlisted August 26, 1861, and participated in the following battles: Wild Cat, Kentucky; Mill Springs, Kentucky; Chickamauga, Mission Ridge; in the Atlanta campaign, including Jonesboro, Sherman's march to the sea, etc. Was mustered out of service July 16, 1865, at Cleveland, Ohio. His son Andrew enlisted and served in the same company and regiment, and was mustered out of service at the same time. The company was attached to the 3rd Division, 3rd Brigade, of the 14th Army Corps. Mr. Jackson was one of the first early settlers of Paulding county. Business, farming in Crane township.
