Christian Hohenstein , cabinet maker, was born in Brakenheim, Germany, December 22,  1819.  He attended school till fifteen years of age and then went to work at the cabinet maker's trade, serving an apprenticeship of three years.  He worked as a journeyman several years and then opened a shop of his own in his native town.  In 1853, he came to the United States, and a year later to Ohio.  He lived in Jackson County five years and then came to Pike County, settling in Marion Township, where he has worked at his trade, and also has a fine fruit farm.  He was married February 02, 1845 to Christina Zinsmeister, a native of Germany, born July 14, 1822.   Mr. and Mrs. Hohenstein are members of the Lutheran Church.
