Robert Emmitt's Bio
Robert Emmitt
was born 17 Feb. 1817 near what is now Waverly. His parents were George & Mary Ada (Addie)STANFORD EMMITT. Roberts siblings were Hon. James, Margaret, David & half siblings, Sarah Jane, George D., Louisa,William, Johnson B EMMITT. & John. STINSON
Robert's mother Addie died about three months after Robert was born. His father George
married Nancy Cumbest in Pike Co. Ohio on 11 Nov. 1819. She seemed to have been a very good
step mother to baby Robert.
In 1837 a small pox epidemic hit Waverly, Roberts brother James had his family vaccinated and his family suffered light cases of the disease, but Robert not vacinated had a severe case but survived. About this time George and Nancy moved to Tippicanoe Co, IN. taking Robert with them. Father George died in 1840 in Tippicanoe Co. IN.. In 1844 Nancy married John Stinson and the family including Robert followed along to Pike Co. Illinois, where Robert met Eliza Jane Renoud. They were married in Pike Co. Illinois 28 Feb.1845 but came to Pike Co. Ohio to work for brother James.
Robert & Eliza Jane had the following Children. Louisea Frances b. 5 June 1848, James Rufus(Ruf) b.24 May 1848, David Augustus (Gus) 15 Jan 1851, & George Ellbert (Ell) b. June 15 1853.
In the late 1850's Robert became a 1/4 partner in the Chillicothe distillery. It appears Robert may have drank too much of the product to do his duties well, James bought him out of the partnership for $14,000 in 1859. (in todays inflated dollars this would be more than $270,000.00)
Robert died 18 Oct. 1880 in Pike Co. Ohio of TB. He is buried in Evergreen Union Cemetery on lot 14 Old Section I. His obit contained little or no useful or accurate information.

( John Emmitt's note: small pox vaccine was discovered in England in the 1770's yet people were allowed
to die by the millions of the disease into the 1900;s. George Washington had his army vaccinated in the
late 1700's. Doctors knew so little before 1850 that if a chart were made showing progress
it would have been a flat line back 2,000 years until 1850 when progress began a slow
process of improvement. Not part of the above article about Robert Emmitt)
