Biography:

Winfield was the only child of Aaron Beekman by his first wife Sarah O'Brien/O'Bient.  He became a farmer, living in Mifflin Twp., Pike Co., Ohio.  In 1860, his real estate was set at $1,000 and personal estate at $500.  In 1870, those figures were $900 and $475 respectively.  He married to Catherine Nace, daughter of George and Elizabeth Ann (Staley) Nace on 5 June 1845.  Though Winfield could read and write, Catherine could not.  She was born on 9 June 1821 and died on 13 December 1871, the mother of six children.  She died in Mifflin Twp., where she had been born, of "consumption".  On her tombstone is inscribed "She has gone to the mansions of rest".  Winfield later married to Irene Humphrey Evans (born c. 1829) on 27 December 1877.  They were married by Rev. William G. Beekman in Pike Co., Ohio.  Evans was Irene’s married name by her first husband, Methodist minister Rev. Charles G. Evans who she had married in Pike Co. on 18 March 1852.  By him, she had had two children: Cora (born 1862) and Elizabeth (born 1863). Winfield's will is dated 17 March 1882 and was proven on 28 October 1882.  He left to his "beloved wife Irene" the household goods and all his farm stock.  He gave his sons Charles and Samuel his farming tools and wagon.
