John McMonigel

John McMonigel was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, in December 1814, a son of John and Mary (McIntyre) McMonigel. His father died when he was nine years old, leaving five children. John went to live with an uncle, remaining with him till 1835, when he came to the United States, landing in New York. He engaged in teaming nine years and then moved to Gallia County, Ohio and purchased eighty acres of land and lived on it three years. He then moved back to New York and stayed three and a half years, when he returned to Gallia County, Ohio where he purchased forty acres more land and lived on it till June 1859, when he sold out and moved to the place where he now resides, and has 160 acres of fine, well-improved land. He was married February 11, 1841 to Margaret Johnson, a native of Ireland. Eight children have been born to them, a son and three daughters now living.
