Carrie Nation

Carrie Nation, of saloon smashing fame, came to Waverly on the late N & W train Saturday evening and on Sunday afternoon delivered an address at the M. E. Church.  Mrs. Nation came here of her  own volition but the local W. C. T. U. telephoned the news of her arrival to the various Unions throughout the county and a large crowd was present to hear her vitrolistic arraignment of the dominant political parties, ministers of the gospel and other who had fallen under the displeasure of the world famous hatchet wielder.  Of course Mrs. Nation is not out for mere mercenary purposes but she did not neglect to take a collection and succeeded in unloading a history of her various escapades and a small souvenir hatchet at a dollar per.  Mrs. Nation remained in the city until Sunday night and during her stay here took a fall out of a number of men who chanced to be smoking when the irrepressible one passed.
