General Merchandise Store, Scioto Township
The following list of names was taken from a ledger used in the John W. Dean General Merchandise Store which was located at Sargents in Scioto Township. The dates of the ledger are from March 26, 1902 to February 16, 1903 names as follows:

Barnes, Charles Boydston, Mrs. Charles Boydston, Andrew Brigner, John Buell, Charles Cutler, Moses Daily, Fred Frember, Charles Havens, Howard Havens, Basil Hays (Hayes), James Hay (Hayes), Cassius Holt, Milt Holt, Frank Lansing, John Maxwell, Sam Nance, James M. Pyle, H. E. Sargent, Al Southworth, James Southworth, Samuel Spriggs, Fred Snynder, W. L. Talbott, Emos Varney, Taylor S. Violet, R. D. Welty, Tom Zimmerman & F.B. Shy.
It is interesting to compare the prices of 70 years ago with those of today. Such as: sugar @.06 lb., coffee @ .11 to .15; pepper @ .05; Bacon @ .12; salmon @ .13 per can, whole hams sold @ .15 lb and a can of oysters @ .10. You could buy a yard of calico for .06 and a spool of thread was .05. a broom cost .20 to .25, a pound of nails was .03 and shoes sold for .60, $1.00, $1.40, $1.50 and $2.00 per pair.
