Canal Water
September 6, 1832, was a Big Day Here;
Water in Canal
September 6, 1832, was a big day for Waverly. That morning, the water in the Ohio Canal reached that point, according to the engineers, and a big celebration was programmed. People came for miles to see it, a public dinner was arranged and it being election year, several candidates were present and the Governor was to speak. The water, however, did not come at the time it was due, because the canal had been routed through gravelly land, and in the gravel-bottomed channels, it was absorbed. It finally came about noon amid cheers and salutes.
