Dear Sir:
Since putting out my book, "Beaver Valley Pioneers." many items of general interest concerning the present location and status of their descendants have reached me, which might be appreciated by many of your readers, so here is a sample:
Robert Morgan, the eldest son of Thomas Morgan, whose farm lay about four miles east of Piketon and south of the Jackson-Piketon Road, was married to Maria Daniels of the Little Beaver community. To them came five sons: Marcus Lindsay King, Thomas Wesley, John Brough, Charles K., and Eddwin Brooks.
Of these, the first was a schoolmate of mine in the little brick schoolhouse four miles east of Piketon. We sat in the same double seat, tackled the problems in "Ray's Third Part Arithmetic." poured over the mysteries in "Harvey's Grammer," learned the capitals of our states and those of other countries, enjoyed the clean literature in "McGuffery's Eclectic Readers," swatted the same ball at recess, smiled at the pretty German and Irish girls located on the opposite side of the 16-foot room and played tag with them on the playgrounds, and in general, had some fine times together. He married my cousin, Alice James, daughter of Andrew James. He entered the Illinois Conference of the M. E. Church, and later moved to Kansas, where he served as pastor for some years. He has been dead for many years, so has his wife. Of their children, Marcus James Morgan married Anne Bulmer and they with their three children, Marcus B., Margery, and Sara Jo, live in Glendale, California, where he is a professor in the high school; the son is an officer in Uncle Sam's Army. Alice, Charles, and Ralph are in business in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Marcus J. Morgan was a member of the faculty of Oklahoma City University, as assistant professor of philosophy and religious education from 1925 to 1931, during which time, as head of the University Press, I had the pleasure of almost daily contact with him.
Thomas Wesley married Sarah Argabright of Little Beaver. Both are deceased. They reared a family of five children and their descendants are still in Pike County, as far as my knowledge reaches.
John Brough and Charles K. died in early manhood.
Eddwin Brooks married Florence Skinner. To them came two sons, Robert Amos and Richard E. The first is unmarried, the second married Augusta McCabb. All live in southeastern Kansas. Eddwin Brooks, after the death of his wife, married Enid Virginia Dines. Their home in Galena, Kansas, where he is a prominent lawyer. In a letter to me, speaking of his Uncle Henry Morgan, who for many years was a teacher In Pike County and later the probate judge of that county, he says: "There never was a better man than my Uncle Henry, nor a better woman than my Aunt Carrie, nor there ever a better family of children."
