Dear Madam:
     Reference is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War records of Zachariah Cook buried in Beaver, Ohio.
     The data which were obtained from the papers in pension claim S.42655, based upon service in the Revolutionary War of Zachariah Cook.
     Date and place of birth of Zachariah Cook are not shown.
     Zachariah Cook enlisted in Staunton, Virginia, sometime in October 1781, served as private, eighteen months in Captain Gamble's and Moss' companies, Colonels Fobiger's and Thomas Posey's Virginia regiments, was in several skirmishes, one at Savannah.  He re-enlisted at Cumberland Court House, Virginia (date not stated), served as private one year in Captain Cook's company, Colonel Horse's (evidently meant for Colonel Hawes") Virginia regiment.
     The soldier was allowed a pension on his application executed February 28, 1830, at which time he was aged seventy-nine years, "on or about" January 10, 1830, and a resident of Greenbrier County, Virginia.
     In 1835, Zachariah Cook moved from Virginia to Pike County, Ohio, to be near his children who had moved to that state.
     Zachariah Cook died January or June 30, 1846, in Pike County, Ohio. (*conflicting dates on tomestone says Nov. 30, 1846, aged 96y 9m 14d)
     In 1830, the wife of Zachariah Cook was referred to as being aged fifty-two years, (name not stated) and there are no further date in regards to her.
     The following named children survived the soldier, Zachariah Cook: John Cook, Elizabeth Cook, Mary Burgess, Nancy Gale, Margaret Zimmerman, Susan Zimmerman and Sarah Butler.
     There are no other family data shown.

Notes: He was a Hessian Soldier in the British Army.  He was captured and taken prisoner served  time in prison then entered in the Colonial Army and served until the end of the war.  In 1833 he came to Ohio, where he died at the age of nearly ninety seven years.(Ref:  Lower Scioto Valley Book).

(*His wife Martha is buried beside him in the Beaver Union Cemetery, Beaver, Ohio.  Her death date is Oct 4, 1846 in the 86year of her age.)  Marion Township Cemetery Book)
