Beavertown, January 3, 1883

The news from this place this week will be scattered.
John Robbins stood guard over the goods taken by the Sheriff as the store room of G. W. Baker, until Monday at noon, and then he was relieved by another man, who now has the matter in charge.
Mr. Davis, a young lawyer of Jackson, was in town last Saturday on legal business.
Mr. Phillips of Portland, Jackson County, is visiting his son Dr. Philips and family of this place.
Mr. Catherine Kinnison has bought seventeen acres of land from H. N. Gall, paying about $500. for it.
Mr. Joseph Aduddell received his pension on last Friday, amounting to near $900.
Mr. David Rhea is over eighty years of age, and he can be seen coming to town almost every day. He is one of the oldest setters on the Beaver Valley.
Philip Spenyler, our old blacksmith, has removed to the country; his intentions are to farm for a living hereafter.
Some of the Beaver folks came from Waverly Monday evening, well filled with bug juice; the kettle which was taken there for repairs did not hold water as well after coming home as before repaired.
Mr. Millard Ramsey took to himself a little wife on Monday (New Years). He should have got one nearer his size; nevertheless we wish them a happy life.
Mr. Glanville was in our town today on his way to California.
Mr. Whitstone, from Auglaize County, has been spending a few days here in Jackson County.
Mrs. M. Dyke is on a visit to her parents in Gallia County.
Sheriff Anderson was in town this morning straightening out some crooks.

Black-berries are plentiful.
Mrs. Dan Farmer was called to Meadow Run Saturday by the serious illness of her brother.
Dr. Hurst and Dr. Mooney were professional callers here Tuesday.
Several from here attended camp-meeting at Daleyville.
Miss Sallie Daily of Waverly visited her parents here last week.
Aunt Betty Moore has been suffering seriously with a wound caused by stepping on a rusty nail.
Mr. & Mrs. O. J. Daily of Gregg's Hill were guests Sunday at Oak Lawn.
Mr. Lansing of near Portsmouth was here last week delivering the Scarborough maps of Ohio.
The Sunday school of the Wetmore circuit will give a celebration at Wakefield next Saturday. Feree Sunday school has a part.
Mrs. Daily and daughter, Bertha was shopping in Waverly Monday.
Miss Mayne Truex has returned to her home in Piketon.
Rev. Butler was calling on J. W. Fishburn and family Wednesday.

Buckhollow - near Beaver, Ohio - 1908
Misses Celia Clouse and Ada Seimon were the guests of Miss Leonora Hammond on Sunday.
L. C. Ingall of this place went with the Beaver boys to play a game of ball with the boys at Wakefield on last Saturday. The score was 17 to 10 in favor of Beaver.
Mr. Albert Hammond has returned home from Circleville.
George Haddle says he is the best hay stacker in this part of the state.
H. D. Schrader of Beaver has been making his daily visits up the hollow.
The I. O. R. M. and Pocahontas council of Beaver are going to give a celebration at Frey's grove August 1st.
Hiney had quite an accident on his journey from Piketon to Buck Hollow. He started from Piketon on a bicycle but finally hired a horse and rig.
Misses Lena and Bertha Stoll, Ada Simon and Celia Clouse were the guests of Miss Lena Stoll Sunday.
George Haddle was seen going through the hollow Sunday.
Mr. Wm. Hines and wife were the guests of the latters parents Sunday.
G. P. Stoll's wife and children were the guests of John Stoll and wife - Sunday.
H. J. Stoll and L. C. Ingalls went to Omega to thresh one day last week.

Mrs. Nannie Patridge and children of Columbus are visiting relatives of this place.
Misses Ruth and Gertrude Hawk of Gallipolis visited their Uncle Ira Hawk and family a few days this week.
Everybody is looking forward to the Piketon Fair.
Mr. & Mrs. O. J. Daily, Mr. & Mrs. John Daily and daughter Myrtle, Misses Pearl Daily and Anna Holt and Messrs Dan Farmer, Jr. and Will Holt were pleasant guests of Mr. & Mrs. Dan Daily and family Sunday.
Rev. John Moore delivered an interesting sermon at Mt. Gilead Sunday to a large audience.
Honorable John T. Moore and wife of Jackson were guests Sunday of Mrs. Alfred Moore, Sr.
Parker Henson visited friends in Portsmouth Wednesday and Thursday.
Aunt Sophia Daily was the guest of Mrs. Isaac Wooddell one day last week.
Miss Emma Farmer was the guest of her parents Sunday.
Hugh Farmer has returned home from work.
Mrs. Susan McCoy and John Hatfield and family were guests of Aunt Sophia Daily and daughter Sunday.
Miss Ada James of Piketon was the guest of Miss Dorothy Hatfield a few days last week.
John Daily and family of the Foster farm and Floyd Vulgamore were guests Sunday of J. W. Fishburn and family.
Ora Rapp was calling on Lawrence Wooddell Sunday.
Miss Edna Baily returned to her home in Indiana Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Ward are the proud parents of a new baby.

Everybody in this neighborhood attended the Piketon Fair.
Alfred Moore, Jr. and family of Mechanicsburg and Chas Wynn, Sr. were guest of Mr. and Mrs. John Hatfield last week.
Messrs Chas. Baugh, Dauson and Floyd Barker of Washington C. H., Frank Moore of Chillicothe, Claude Halterman and Scott Irving of Beaver and Mrs. Kate Conley of Waverly visited Dan Daily and family and attended the fair this week.
Mr. and Mrs. John Brust of Columbus were the guests of Everett Daily and wife Wednesday.
Mrs. Sarah Moore and daughter Daisy of Columbus are guests of Mrs. Alfred Moore, Sr.
Ray Kemper of near Portsmouth has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Frank Nance.
Mrs. Chas. Brown and son, Donald of Portsmouth and James Baily of Anderson, Indiana, have been visiting Henry Brown.
The basket meeting in Van Meters grove Sunday was largely attended.
Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Daily and daughter, Florence spent Sunday at Greggs Hill the guests of O. J. Daily and wife.
Welty Vulgamore passed this way Saturday enroute to Shyville.
Miss Grace Wright of Piketon was the pleasant guest of Imo Daily Tuesday.
Misses Lou and Dora Brown received a message of the death of their aunt Mrs. John Duke of Los Angeles, California.

Rev. Jacob Stoll is conducting a revival meeting on Hay Hollow.
Mr. Lute Sullivan and Mattie Wikeline of the Ridge attended meeting here Friday evening.
Frank Zimmerman is hauling ties for John Irwin.
Russell Anderson and Coon Stultz traded horses Friday
Joseph Acord made a business trip to Omega Friday.
Geo Anderson sold his tore to Chas Rose of Omega.
Miss Emma Irwin who has been employed at Dayton has come home to spend the winter with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Irwin.
Rev. George Maple of Sinal delivered a very interesting sermon here Friday evening.
Miss Ada Anderson who is employed at John Wolf's on Hixon Run was the guest of her parents Sunday.
Miss Ina Buchanan of Meadow Run who is teaching school at Big Run was the guest of Miss Etta Anderson Saturday and Sunday.
Joe Anderson and William were guest of Oscar Scott Sunday.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Irwin a ten pound boy Sunday.
Mr. Jacob Wolf was visiting his father, Mr. John Wolf of Hixon Run Sunday who is very poorly at this writing.
