Pike County's own Sons of Pioneers
Although they were not billed as the "Sons of the Pioneers" (famous T.B. & movie band), the four sons of a pioneer Pike County couple, James Morgan & Mary Ann Gragg Smith, made up a popular county band in the 1916 era. Pictured at Arkoe are (left to right) Hartley Alfred, Talmadge, Arizona and Rodney Smith.
The young men played for many square dances, minstrel and stage shows and family gathering in the Rarden, Otway, Peebles and Elm Grove communities and around Washington Court House, where they went to do farm work at harvest times. - Courtesy of Orval Smith, Peebles, Ohio.
