GREENBAUM BUILDING

Location:  North Market Street & U. S. Rt. 23, Waverly, Ohio

This is one of the old building that was used along the canal when it cut through Waverly about 1875.

The road in the picture was where the canal was located and is now U.S. Route 23 in downtown Waverly.

In the early days, Waverly was known as "Uniontown."  That early village was renamed by a canal engineer from New York.  The city is named for Sir Water Scott's "Waverly Novels."

Somewhere during the name change though, the city's name had an "e" left out of the original Novel's spelling of Waverley.

The building is still standing today. On your next visit to Waverly, take a look at this old, historic building and visualize the canal running along side the Greenbaum Building.
