Ernest Vester

ERNEST VESTER'S HAND - BUILT HOME ON WHEELS - 1913
 ALMA-OMEGA ROAD, PIKE COUNTY, OHIO

Back in 1913, Ernest Vester and his brother Julius, built a one-room frame home.  But this home was a little different than most.  It was constructed on a wagon frame.
Ernest took his wife, Alma cook Vester and daughter, JoAnn (just a baby then and now (Mrs. Elmer Farmer) to Minnesota to farm in much the same manner as seen on television in the series Little House on the Prairie.
Mrs. Vester didn't like the country and especially the curious Indians who came around and mostly just stared.

Alma finally convinced her husband, Ernest, to bring the family home to Pike County using this same wagon home equipped with a cooking and heating stove.  They soon settled on a farm (now the Pike County Airport property) and built a house and farm building.
I'm indebted to Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Farmer for this picture and story and dedicate this article to them.
