FORMER FIREFIGHTER HONORED FOR SERVICE
Firefighters from around the county gathered Friday to honor the memory of Piketon resident, Howard Lee
Smith, a 37 year member of the Piketon-Seal Township Volunteer Fire Department with 18 years as Fire Chief. The emergency personnel salute Smith as he passed under the ladders of local firetrucks.

Obituary:
Howard Lee Smith, 72, of Main Street, Piketon, Ohio went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 16, 2009.
He was born September 8, 1936 in Piketon, son of the late Elmer Ellsworth Smith and Daisy Violet Wickham Smith. On April 8, 1959 Howard was united in marriage to Darlene Ellen McCann Smith who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sherry Hardman and husband Mark of Piketon; Brenda Chitwood and husband Robert of Piketon; four grandchildren, Jade and Noah Hardman, Cameron and Lafe Chitwood, two sisters, Delores Shepherd and Arvil Stevens of Piketon and Nancy Burkitt and husband Morris of Piketon.
Howard was a retired surveyor for the Ohio Department of Transportation and a 37 year member of the Piketon-Seal Township Volunteer Fire Department with 18 years as Fire Chief. Howard attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Tavares, Florida.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at Howe Wheeler Boyer Hornback Funeral Home in Piketon with Paul F. Hornback, Selby Williams and Elmer "Bubby" Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery, Piketon.
Friends may call at funeral home 4-8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Friday.
