Wakefield Post Office Closes
Customers of the Wakefield Post Office will soon have to go elsewhere to purchase stamps or to mail packages.
On Friday, September 2, 2005, the post office will close its doors and be removed from the building is has been housed in for more than 40 years.
According to Postmaster Becky Turpen, a post office has been in operation in Wakefield for more than 100 years. The current building was owned by Charles Noel of Piketon, but he recently sold the building to Don and Vicky Slone of Wakefield.
The building owner has exercised the option to cancel the lease and has given the Postal Service 30 days notice to vacate the premises," said Kathleen Patrick, Assistant Manager of Post Office Operations, in a letter that is being disturbed to all Wakefield residents and postal recipients.
The Postal Service will be putting in cluster box units next to the firehouse with the first delivery date of Saturday, September 3, 2005.
