THOMAS BRADLEY ROTH's parents moved from Berks Co. PA. to Shamokin,
Northumberland Co. PA, where family notes say that they owned and ran The
Eagle Hotel. That bit of data is under some question. I have scanned through
FLOYD's & BELL's Histories of Northumberland Co. PA and there is no mention
of any ROTH owning the hotel. The only ROTHs mentioned in BELL's history are
(1) Charles & Mary ROTH_HUGHES and their son (2) C. E. & Alice BITTENBENDER_ HUGHES.
Charles was child #9 of Johann Paul & Catherine REITER_ROTH (above)....and
(3) that a Paul ROTH (Johann Paul?)was appointed Postmaster of the Mt.
Carmel Post Office 17 Jun 1848.
I haven't discovered yet, how or why Thomas left PA, but he next appears in
Circleville, Washington Twp. Pickaway Co. OH. His future wife, Esther D.
GRIEST moved with he parents and siblings from Warrington Meeting in York
Co. PA. in 1834. The GRIESTs had relatives in Pickaway Co. OH.
First Reformed Church Records in Reading, Berks Co. PA says Thomas and
Esther were married on April 6, 1836 Washington Twp. Pickaway Co. OH.; "The
GRIEST Family" book says April 7, 1836.
