I'm looking for info on a Shirkey family that lived in Ohio sometime around 1820-50. James Shirkey migrated to Missouri shortly before 1850 because he shows up in the Clark County Missouri Census with his wife by the name of Sarah. I am told her last name may have been Haley. Both James and his wife claim to be born in Virginia about 1807. On the 1850 Missouri census he list the following family:James Shirkey 43 b. Va. Sarah Shirkey 43 b. Va John B. 22 b. Ohio James 20 Ohio David 16 Ohio Mary 16 Ohio Nancy 14 Ohio Durius (Darius) 12 Ohio Harvey 10 Ohio A. Jackson 8 Ohio Hiram 6 Ohio I don't think the ages are correct for the children. I have ran across tombstones that say different. Hiram I don't believe is 6 in 1850 and he may have been born somewhere besides Ohio. I believe that John B. Shirkey was born in Meigs county Ohio and that his sister Nancy Adeline Shirkey was also born in Meigs County. Darius claims to have been born in Knox county. Both Nancy and John have stated on records that they were born in Meigs. Four of the boys enlisted in Ottumwa Iowa in the civil war. After returning from the war John and his family moved around Virginia Ill and stayed there until his death in 1895. I would appreciate any help with this family such as James father's name, and what Sarah Shirkey's maiden name is. Would also appreciate a marriage date for them. I assume they married in Ohio but I don't know for sure. John married a Cathering Culler in 1850 in Clark County Missouri. Her father was Jacob Culler and I have located a Jacob Culler in the 1840 Oh! io census. I have a feeling these families migrated together, maybe with a Rupe family also. Thanks for any clues or help you can give me. I have hit a brick wall on this. Thanks Debbie Stevens

There are Craines and Masalas (Masales) living in the area but I'm not sure if they are related and/or she lived with them. She may have been with her brother John Craine.
