Harry E. Courtney's sufferings were ended by death at 1:25 o'clock this morning.  Since the accident which befell him at 3:30 o'clock last Saturday, he never regained consciousness nor spoke a word.  There was some encouragement Monday that he might recover but he began sinking yesterday and when evening came the family was apprised of approaching dissolution.

Dr. Parker, of Cleveland, who was called for consultation yesterday, approved of Dr. Loughridge's treatment of the injuries and assured the anxious family that all had been done to save Harry's life that was possible for any man to do.

The injuries resulting from the explosion and caused by a portion of the copper fountain striking him on the head consisted of a compound depressed fracture involving that portion of the skull on the right side about three inches above the ear and extending a distance of about three inches obliquely backward and downward from the temple.  After the depressed portion was raised and the broken pieces of the skull were removed, continued unconsciousness and other symptoms indicated that the base of the skull was fractured extending transversely across the base in front of where the spinal cord connects with the brain.  The concussion and fracture had probably lacerated the under surface of the brain which caused the bleeding into the ears and throat and a paralysis of the nerves leading to the lungs and bowels, which rather than the facture on the side of the head, was the prime cause of death.

This diagnosis was confirmed by Dr. Parker and it was his opinion that further operation than had been performed would have been futile.

Harry Elmore Courtney was a son of William Courtney of this city.  He was born January 13, 1863.  He was a graduate of the Mansfield High School after which he engaged in the drug business with A.D. White whom, a few years ago, he succeeded in the business.  He married Miss Hallie B. Harrington, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. W.S. Harrington, October 5, 1891, and there are no children.  Mr. Courtney was a member of Mansfield Lodge, No. 35, F.A.M.

Funeral services under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity will be held at the residence, 255 Park Avenue West, Friday at 2 p.m.  Dr. D.J. Meese will preach the funeral sermon.
