Adam Shafer who was born March 9, 1823, died Sept. 25, 1894, aged 71 years, 6 months and 16 days.  He married Susanna Zimmers, May 23, 1844.  To them were born eleven children, nine of whom are living.  There are 26 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Shafer, who survives her husband, is in reasonably good health and about one year younger than he. Both of them were confirmed in youth, he as a member of the German Reformed church, and she has a Lutheran.  The funeral, which occurred on Thursday, Sept. 27, was largely attended by relatives and neighbors.  Rev. J.N. Barnett conducted the services.  A choir consisting of Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Hissong, Mr. Fisher and Rev. Caldwell, with Miss Fisher as organist conducted the music.  The remains were deposited in the cemetery adjoining Salem Lutheran church.
