Yarger, Edward Wilson -- Edward Wilson Yarger was born on the old Yarger homestead in Jefferson Township, Richland County, Aug. 18, 1871, died May 27, 1906, aged 34 years, 9 months and 9 days.  Mr. Yarger was the oldest son of Daniel and Catharine Yarger.  His early life was spent in Worthington and Jefferson Townships, where he attended the public schools until about 20 years of age.  On Feb. 12, 1896, he married Nettie Grubb, to which union were born two children, Paul, aged 8, and John, aged 2 years.  After his marriage he engaged in farming, having lived on the Capt. Wilson, Fitting, Kochheiser and Beatty farms.  In the fall of 1903 he moved to Bellville and engaged in the transfer and draying business in which he was very successful.  He was accommodating and obliging and was respected by all who knew him.  Besides his wife and children he leaves a father, mother, three brothers, four sisters and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his loss.  He was converted at the Mt. Carmel Evangelical church in 1891.  He died in the faith of Christ as his Savior.  The floral offerings were large, manifesting the respect and esteem in which he was held by the friends and business men.  The funeral services were held in the M.E. church, conducted by the Rev. Yarger, Edward Wilson -- Mr. E. Arthur Smith.  Mr. Yarger leaves a wife and two small children, father and mother, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his untimely death.  Interment at Ankenytown.  --  [Bellville Messenger:  01 June 1906, Vol. 14, No. 18]  *Later in the Mt. Yarger resulting in his death a few days later, was received with universal sorrow in this locality, where he was born, raised and highly respected.  The family have the sympathy of all in their sad bereavement."

Yarger, Elizabeth (Hagerman) -- Mrs. Elizabeth Yarger (nee Hagerman), the subject of this sketch, was born in Montour Co., Pa., March 26, 1813; died May 2, 1893, aged 80 years, 7 months and 6 days. In early life she removed with her parents to Reedsburg, Wayne Co., O., where she united with Daniel Yarger, Dec. 18, 1837. They resided several years in Ashland County, then moved to the southern part of Richland County, where they resided until the fall of 1874, then moved to Knox County, where her husband died, June 21, 1884.   Their union was blessed with eight children, four sons and four daughters, all of whom are living and were present to witness the last sad rites of both their parent's funerals -- a rare occurrence. She was highly respected by all who formed an acquaintance. At the age of sixteen she was converted and united with the Evangelical church of which she might properly be styled a lineal descendant as her grandfather, Adam Miller, was one of fourteen lay members that ordained Jacob Albright as the first minister of that association. She spent 64 years of her Master's service and was only waiting and praying for an easy release which was granted her. Her illness only lasted about twelve hours when she passed quietly away.   The funeral took place on Thursday, May 4, at 11 a.m., conducted by her pastor, Rev. Bone. Services and interment at Four Corners church. -- [BELLVILLE INDEPENDENT: 11 May 1893, Vol. 5, No. 52]

Yarger, Elizabeth (Hagerman) -- A curious phenomena happened at Jacob L. Swank's, this being the second occurrence. Two years ago in Feb., Mrs. Yarger's clock was setting on the bureau in the room she occupied but the weights were placed on the chords the clock struck 1 and in less than a week her little son, Casper, sickened and died and since that including Mrs. Yarger, there have been three more deaths in the family and after Mrs. Y's death on last Tuesday the clock ran down and stopped at 20 min. of 1 a.m., Wednesday morning and the watchers say it struck but 5 at midnight, the striking weight being clear down; but on Friday while Mrs. McMillia was replacing some dishes that were used on the occasion of the funeral, on the previous day without any jar the clock again struck 1. The family are considerably alarmed about the strange occurrence. -- [BELLVILLE INDEPENDENT: 11 May 1893, Vol. 5, No. 52]

Yarger, Mrs. William -- Upon the evening of March 13th., '88, Mrs. William Yarger suddenly departed this life without warning or a parting word to her family which was seated about the room with her.  A short pause from speaking Mrs. Yarger dropped her head, and very soon she was gone from the scene of time to dwell forever in a blissful eternity, there to see, to know, to be like the Savior that she so loved to serve here;  for she lived in consciousness of the glorious truth which John expresses when he says "Beloved now are we the Sons of God, and it doth not yet appear, what we shall be, but we know that when He shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is."  <additional scripture omitted>  --  [Bellville Star:  22 March 1888, Vol. 11, No. 26]

Young, Roy Johnson -- Bellville.  Roy Young, son of Simon Young, who resides 2˝ miles south of town, was fatally kicked by a horse early Tuesday morning.  He had gone to the barn before breakfast to perform his morning work and in passing behind the horses was kicked in the side of the face by one of them.  He was found a short time afterward lying in a pool of blood, unconscious, and was taken to the house.  Dr. Kelley was immediately summoned and on examination found the lower jaw to be broken, the bridge of the nose mashed and several bad cuts.  He did not regain consciousness, and died at 11:30 Wednesday night, aged 25 years and 9 months.  The funeral was held from the house Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Canfield.  Interment in Bellville cemetery.  [Semi-Weekly News:  23 November 1897, Vol. 13, No. 94]

Young, Roy Johnson -- Roy Young, aged about 24 years, a brother of Dr. Young, formerly a partner of Dr. I.W. Howard, of this city, died at his home in Bellville at 11:30 o'clock Wednesday night, the result of being kicked by a horse.  Mr. Young went to the barn at his home before breakfast Tuesday morning for the purpose of attending to the stock as usual.  When he did not appear at breakfast, the other members of the family went to the barn to look for him.  The young man was found lying on the ground with the left side of his face badly crushed.  The victim was unconscious and remained in that condition until Wednesday night when he died.  [Semi-Weekly News:  23 November 1897, Vol. 13, No. 94]

Young, Roy Johnson -- Roy Young, who was so terribly kicked by a horse last Tuesday morning, died Wednesday at 10 o'clock p.m., without regaining consciousness.  The physicians saw that the deadly blow of the horse's hoof had done its work and realized that death was imminent.  However, everything possible was done for the injured man but he was beyond medical aid and passed peacefully away.  He experienced no suffering.  After the vicious blow had been dealt him until the hour of his death he was incapable of realizing for even a moment that he was soon to be called to the other world, and never uttered a word indicating that he had any knowledge of the dreadful accident that had happened to him.  The bereaved family, bowed in grief by the sudden departure of  a dearly-loved son and brother, have the sympathy of all in the trying hour of sorrow.  Roy was a model young man, a favorite among his companions, who greatly feel their loss as well as the stricken family.  The funeral services were held at the home of the deceased's parents, Mr. & Mrs. S.B. Young on Friday at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Dr. H.L. Canfield.  The high esteem in which Roy Young was held can only be judged by the immense concourse of friends that followed the remains to the place of interment in Beulah Cemetery, and turned sadly away to learn in time, the lesson, that love is stronger than death, and that it can outlast all our sorrows.  Roy Johnson Young was born January 25, 1872 and was therefore 25 years, 9 months and 22 days of age at the time of his death.  He was the youngest child of Simon and Olive Howard Young, living three miles south of Bellville and was widely and well known throughout this part of Richland County.  The circumstances attending Roy's death were exceedingly painful and affective to the family and friends.  A sudden death is always a shock to surviving friends;  but it is especially severe, when, as in this case, one who was in the prime and vigor of young manhood, honest, true, kind, helpful, loving and beloved, is stricken down without warning.  Roy was greatly beloved by his family and kindred and had many warm friends outside of the charmed circle of home.  All who knew him respected him, and all speak of him in terms of praise.  [Bellville Messenger:  25 November 1897]
